PROHIBITING INFANT DEATH INVESTIGATIONS (formerly known as the "Infanticide Bill")

SUMMARY: Formerly, A.B. 2223 was known as the "Infanticide Bill" as it would have legalized infanticide in California. Recently, A.B. 2223 was amended from shielding a mother from criminal charges in the case of “perinatal death due to a pregnancy-related cause” ("perinatal” can be defined as a number of weeks after birth) to now stating “perinatal death due to a cause that occurred in utero.” This means that a mother and anyone assisting her can be shielded from civil or criminal charges for the death of her newborn baby if that death was a result of something that took place while the baby was still in the womb without proving that the death is the result of something that took place within the womb. While the amendment may have made the bill less dangerous, A.B. 2223 is far from being supportable. A.B. 2223 in its entirety puts babies and women at high risk of injury and abuse, all in the name of “women’s healthcare.” (To learn more, click here)

Proposition # 1, Abortion on Demand Up to Birth
State Constitutional Amendment 10 (SCA 10)/ Proposition # 1 Amended California State Constitution to "Enshrine" abortion as a CA Constitutional right throughout all 40 weeks of pregnancy, resulting in legalized abortion of healthy viable babies up to the moment of birth.
Proposition 1 states: “The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion”.

SUMMARY: Will fund the creation of a website to connect women to abortion clinics and services, and will also provide grants to organizations for the purpose of covering abortion services. This includes covering the cost for women, whether they live in California or travel from out-of-state, to obtain an abortion, with paid-for transportation, food, and childcare.

SUMMARY: Establishes the California Reproductive Health Equity Program that increases funding for abortion providers who serve uninsured women and women whose insurance does not cover abortion. This bill also requires religious employers who choose health care plans that do not cover abortions to violate their consciences by requiring them to notify their employees how they can obtain abortion services.

SUMMARY: Increases the number of health care workers who can perform an abortion. This law establishes the California Reproductive Health Scholarship Corps to recruit, train, and retain abortion providers and other “reproductive health services.” The Corps will administer scholarships and stipends to new recruits, as well as offer students and existing abortion providers an option for a portion of their loans to be forgiven for each year they work in the field of “reproductive health care.”

SUMMARY: California policymakers have proposed AB 1666, to offer civil protections to abortion patients and providers. Doe v. Bolton is a companion case to Roe v. Wade. Doe v. Bolton was heard and decided by the Supreme Court on the same day as Roe v. Wade, on January 22, 1973.
